TI Subject Description
Nora AB., a 27-year-old woman, has a master’s degree in sociology, but strongly adheres to her tribe’s traditions. She belongs to one of the ancient tribes in the northern region of Saudi Arabia.
From an early age, she participated in seasonal celebrations and tribal gatherings, where elders passed down oral histories and traditional wisdom. She grew up in an environment that respects and preserves tribal traditions, although she studied abroad for two years while preparing for her master’s degree.
She excelled in her undergraduate studies at King Saud University, where her interest in understanding social structures naturally led her to sociology. Her academic excellence earned her a scholarship to complete her master’s degree at the University of Amsterdam.
While many Saudi students returned with westernized perspectives that challenged their upbringing, Nora’s experience strengthened her appreciation for her heritage. She observed how tribal concepts of mutual support, honor, and collective responsibility offered solutions to social fragmentation she witnessed in Western societies.
